Quick-start Windows 95

I would like to find a way of quick-starting Windows 95. I have cleared the StartUp folder of everything I can, but I find the long wait after starting very frustrating, especially if I just want to check my email.

By clearing the StartUp folder you've already done the only thing that can really speed up startup. However, it's possible that software being loaded in config.sys or autoexec.bat could be slowing things down, and you may not actually need any of this software. Hit Esc when the Windows logo comes up. This will clear the screen so you can see what is happening. If Windows pauses for a long time on a particular command, this may be the cause of the slow startup.

The quick way to find out if you really need autoexec.bat or config.sys is to disable them by renaming the two files (in the C drive root folder) to config.tmp and autoexec.tmp. By doing this, you can easily rename them back if disabling turns out to have an undesirable effect on your computer.
